How do I fix my keyboard configuration in Windows Vista?

Many people have a problem with their keyboard configuration that they never bother to correct – simply because they don’t know how!

If you find that some keys aren’t as they appear to be, you may need to configure your keyboard settings. For example, if your AT symbol turns out to be double quotes, and your double quotes turn out to be the AT symbol, it’s a sure bet that you’re using the wrong configuration.

To change your keyboard configuration, follow the following instructions. (If you’re using XP, click here for the instructions).

1. Click Start, and go to Control Panel.
2. Type ‘keyboard’ in the search box to the top right.
3. In the ‘Regional and Language Options’ section, click ‘Change keyboard or other input methods’.
4. Click ‘Change keyboards’.
5. Look in the ‘Installed services’ section to make sure that your local keyboard layout is installed. If it isn’t, click Add to install it to your machine.
6. Select the default input language using the drop down box in the ‘Default input language’ section.
7. Click OK, and then OK again.

You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
